Job Hunting Upon Completion of Vet Nurse Training

So you have completed your vet nurse training and now need advice on what to do next. It is common for those who have finished training to need a little help in order to determine where they should look for jobs as as a vet nurse so here is a quick guide on where to start your search.

One place that may slip your mind when looking for vet tech jobs is to look at universities and educational facilities. If you think back to your vet nurse training you may recall occasions when your tutors had assistance when demonstrating. Often places that provide vet courses look for staff that can do these roles and assist teachers. Given that you may gave recently undergone training of your own you will have first hand experience of what it is like to be a student and how the course is handled. Using these skills and the observations that you have from being a student can work in your favor, so it can be beneficial to detail this in your resume and application for work. Speak to your former tutors as they will be able to advise you of routes to take and any possible vacancies.

Another option is to check out local animal shelters. Often shelters will treat animals such as cats and dogs that are strays or are in need of medical attention. Although some cases are often due to unfortunate abuse by previous owners working at a shelter gives employees a chance to save animals giving a sense of accomplishment when the animal treated is placed in a new loving and caring home.

You can also look at shelters in rural locations, working in these shelters will broaden the types of animals you will treat and care for. Often rural shelters help animals that were once used for farming such as cows and horses.

Another avenue is to work for the government. Government agencies such as the department of national animal health have specialist divisions which employ vet nurses and technicians. The nurses will help other members of staff respond to any animal diseases that occur not only in America but other countries around the world also. This line of work is great for those that have specialized in a particularly area of the industry.

A great tip is to visit many of these places in person or call them up. Existing staff members will be able to point you in the right direction and share any news of upcoming vacancies with you. You should also note that even if the place you inquire at has no vacancies at present to still leave your resume with them as there could be a time in the future they will be hiring.

Also if you are fresh out of school try and volunteer while you search for a position. Often this will enable you to build a professional relationship within the industry and you can prove first hand what your skills and knowledge.
